i-church is an online Christian community, rooted in the Anglican Diocese of Oxford, welcoming members from all countries.
A living Christian community, with a range of views about faith, life and the world, we include all denominations and none, seekers of faith and established Christians.
A supportive, non-judgemental and broad-minded faith community, we journey together in prayerful trust and confidence.
In i-church, we try to do all the things that you'd do in a normal, "bricks and mortar" church. We worship and pray together. We listen to each other's stories, and share our happy and sad times with others. Some of us study scripture together, hold discussions about our faith, our lives and the world around us.
We've got a number of tools available to help us do all this. Here's how they work...
We can add prayers to our website to share them with others. Other people can then add their own prayers to support ours. It can be an immense joy and support, knowing that friends all over the world understand us and are praying with us.
We use chat rooms to hold our worship events, and to run our virtual café. Many are familiar with chat rooms, but they essentially allow what you type to become visible to everyone else in the room in real time.
Perhaps one of the most special things about the chat is having a conversation with people from all over the world at the same time.
Someone in the US may be just getting up, someone in the UK might have just had lunch, someone in China may have had supper and someone in Australia might be yawning and ready for bed but all can be in one conversation. These conversations are a wonderful chance to share experiences and learn about different cultures. Things that we take for granted look very different through someone else’s eyes.
We meet in the chat room called Chapel for worship. This mostly uses words on the screen which can make quite an impact but may seem strange to anyone who’s used to hearing the words spoken in a church. Sometimes we look at pictures or listen to music as part of our worship.
Our forums allow us to spend time together in a spirit of learning, sharing and fellowship. The different areas within the forums enable us to join together in a number of different ways, from light-hearted games and humour, through social and contemporary discussion, to spiritual exploration and mutual support. All this, in turn, encourages us to ask questions, consider ideas that may be reassuring or challenging, and offer our own insights. Our members come from all over the world, so, as one country's members go to sleep, another set is just getting started and our conversation continues throughout the day and night.
We would like to invite you to join us. Share your views with us, take part in our conversation, and see if we can inform or challenge you. We don't ask for any commitment to any religious faith, just that you agree to treat others with respect and tolerance. We would love to get to know you - but you can share as much or as little of yourself as you like.
Pull up your computer chair, and join us.
